Gravity box augers give farms a fast and controlled way to move grain, seed, or fertilizer from the field to planters, drills, trucks, or storage equipment. Mounted directly to a gravity box or grain cart, a box auger captures material flowing through the bottom door, using rotating flighting to carry it through the auger tube. This allows quicker unloading with less scooping, lifting, and spillage.

These pair with most gravity wagons and can swing into position for precise discharge. The current Grain Saver model uses 6-inch flighting and comes in 11- and 14-foot lengths, providing options for different box heights and discharge reach.

Standard equipment includes an articulating hopper, a hydraulic motor with flow controls, a tube saddle, and a cable support kit for grain cart applications. The hopper maintains steady intake from gravity wagons, while the adjustable hydraulic motor helps the operator match auger speed to material flow.

Steel flighting is selected for corn, soybeans, fertilizer, and other high-wear applications where durability is the top priority. Grain Handling Direct supplies steel storage and handling options for complete farm systems.

Plastic flighting, poly-cup, or bristle designs provide gentler handling for seed grain and other delicate crops. These can reduce kernel cracking compared to conventional flighting while controlling movement. Although poly components are available, confirm whether a model uses a steel auger tube or plastic tube ahead of ordering.

Applications, Accessories, and System Options

Gravity box augers work well for unloading gravity wagons, filling seed drills and planters, or moving fertilizer into field equipment. They also serve grain carts and hopper-bottom bin applications, giving farms a flexible alternative to a permanent transfer system.

Mount the box auger using the tube saddle and the correct hardware for your gravity box. Check the cable tension, hydraulic connections, guards, and flighting before usage. Keep your hands and loose clothing away from moving parts, wear eye and ear protection, and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions.

For routine care, inspect the hopper, tube, flighting, cables, and hydraulic motor for wear, leaks, or loose hardware. After use, clean out treated seed or fertilizer to limit buildup and corrosion.
